How does the end-to-end encryption work?

Available in: PRO

With end-to-end encryption (also referred to as “E2E encryption”), your files are fully encrypted in the browser before they are uploaded and are then transmitted in this form to the recipients. A secret key (a kind of password) is generated, which the recipients must specify when downloading in order to decrypt the files.

End-to-end encryption is only available for sending files. When you create a transfer with end-to-end encryption, both the link and the password are displayed to you on the confirmation page. You can then decide whether you want to send the two elements separately or embed the password in the link URL.

For security reasons, we recommend that you always send the link and password separately. Don’t forget to copy the password on the confirmation page, as it will not be possible to view or change it afterwards.
